This ceramic vessel comes from the Jemez nation in New Mexico. Jemez pottery has only been relevant since the late 20th century, as most of the traditional pottery making ceased in the 18th century and ceramics consumerism existed only through trade with neighboring nations. In the recent revival, red, black, and tan tones are common, as are natural designs such as plants and animals. In this vessel, the red, black, and tan tones can be seen, however the design is more abstract, similar to that of the Acoma pueblo also located in New Mexico. The bottom of this vessel is signed "MEC, Jemez." MEC is an unknown artist, but the signature confirms the origin location of this vessel.
