Donald Forsythe based the assemblage For Those Who Wait on his experience of meeting Christian artists in Guatemala and attempting to understand their lives and faith perspective. The central wooden shrine once held figures of saints for a household altar and now contains a bird’s wing set against a gold metal panel and teal backdrop. An orange grid at the top suggests order or containment, and the wax-encased text on the left hints at obscured narratives or protected knowledge. The wooden scaffold-like structure and the tray of circular forms reinforce ideas of support. The background of printed text pages layers the piece with a sense of history and storytelling.
