MessageThis flat bowl comes from the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico. Acoma ceramics are traditionally light weight with thin walls, often with black and white geometric patterns displayed on them. In this bowl, some of those traditions remain. This artist, known as M. Antonio, has painted in traditional orange, black, and white pigments a geometric design on the interior of the bowl. Most geometric designs in Acoma ceramics are used to represent nature or animals, as evident here by the leaf-like pattern at the top and bottom of the bowl. This bowl well represents Acoma ceramic traditions. The signature on the bottom reads, "M. Antonio, Acoma, N.M."
