South Florida has been underwater for about 400,000 years and has a developed underwater ecosystem. New species are being discovered regularly in the area once known as ‘miamidade’. Slowly dissolving mineral and organic deposits, along with the residual radiation, have led to interesting mutations, such as the one seen here. A once-terrestrial species has formed a symbiotic relationship with the larval form of an aquatic one.
