Eve, 7 a.m by Eileen O'Connor Image: Although a modern figure, the name Eve conjures up images of the first woman in the Garden of Eden, casting a very different light on what might appear as a traditional bathing scene at first. Here Eve rises for her toilette, lotion and towel in hand, readying herself for the day by washing away the impurities of the world, returning herself to a state of grace. The stillness of early morning is evoked in the expansive use of black in the painting, shrouding the figure, emphasizing the
whiteness of her flesh and invoking a sense of purity. She is the spark of hope in the darkness.
