SAWFORD-DYE, Ernest (1873-1965) was a landscape and figurative painter. He worked in watercolour and is known for his northern Ontario landscapes, farm scenes and wildlife studies. He was born in Norwich England in 1874, where Sawford-Dye won the Queen's prize for drawing when he was 14. He studied at the Norwich School of Art under Miller Smith RBA ( Royal Society of British Artists) and the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters.

Sawford-Dye immigrated to Canada in 1903 and moved to New Liskeard, Ontario in 1913. Sawford-Dye was for a long time a member of the Woodpecker Art Club where he conducted a life-drawing class of 77 members. Many of his works are the proud possessions of local citizens and a good number were sent to the United States. He was honored by the Kiwanis Club of New Liskeard in March 1960 as an outstanding citizen and artist. He died in 1965.

Ernest Sawford-Dye était peintre paysagiste et figuratif. Il pratiquait l’aquarelle et est reconnu pour ses paysages du nord de l’Ontario, ses scènes de ferme et ses études de la faune et de la flore. Il est né à Norwich, en Angleterre, en 1874, où il a remporté un prix pour dessin quand il avait 14 ans. Il a étudié à la Norwich School of Art sous la direction de Miller Smith de la Société royale des artistes britanniques et de l’Institut royal des aquarellistes. Sawford-Dye a émigré au Canada en 1903 et s’est établi à New Liskeard, Ontario, en 1913. Il a été pendant longtemps membre du club d’art Woodpecker où il donnait des classes de dessin d’après nature à 77 autres membres. Plusieurs de ses œuvres sont aujourd’hui la fière possession de gens locaux quoiqu’un bon nombre se trouve aujourd’hui aux États-Unis. En mars 1960, le club Kiwanis de New Liskeard l’honorait du titre de citoyen et artiste remarquables. Sawford-Dye est décédé en 1965.
