Black Water Island by Arlie Hoffman Image: The source of this painting was nondescript except for a snow covered rock in a small river near North Bay. I elected to use the rock set in dark water to convey solitude that many may feel living in a northern area especially during the winter months. I tend to paint in a minimalist style; simply dwelling on a structure, figure or still life alone in isolated space.
