All Art doesn’t have to be ugly. Some must be. But not all. As an artist, I’ve created much of both. Purposely or otherwise. From the spirit of my age, ugly is the usual path it seems most have taken. I understand why with such a mess this world is.
Nevertheless, although humans have always made a mess of things, that, apparently, is what humans do best, I enjoy making beautiful messes. I am painting, drawing, sketching, creating work. I want to reflect the natural landscapes or built landscapes around me that I find gorgeous. Caught by the bewitching mix of what attracts my attention, putting into those reactions in the artwork.
Travel season is approaching again, this year I hope to get outside painting again, it’s been a few years past what it should have. I have spent my time waiting and improving my skills in the studio, but they seem to be missing the spark of that immediate contact with the land. So, I’m changing that back toward what I’ve missed. Painting outside.
Hope to see you all out on the road this year. I’ll go as much as I am able. I’ve one trip planned and the rest is just “See what Happens” which I’m better at than planning.
