Boundless Horizons
As I carved this wall relief from Huon pine, I felt a profound connection to the themes of movement and freedom. Each cut into the wood felt like a step toward unlocking the spirit of the piece, revealing forms that seemed to soar from the grain itself. The natural flow of the timber guided my hands, as though the wings were always waiting to emerge, poised to take flight.
The process became a reflection on the longing for freedom—freedom of spirit, thought, and movement. As the work took shape, I found myself drawn to the interplay between the weight of the wood and the lightness of the forms, a dynamic tension that mirrors our own journeys toward liberation. This piece invites us to sense that same upward pull, the boundless energy of a sky that is always open to us.
