When I painted this I couldn't help but think of how small we can often feel, just as this Barrow's goldeneye is so small in the vastness of the water around him. However as I studied him on the water I was struck by the ripples that were so far reaching in the intense blue of the lake which left his imprint so much larger than one can imagine. Inspired by a hike to the Valley of the Five Lakes in Jasper.
