In this piece I wanted to capture the beauty of Takaya's surroundings and how well the colours in his coat complimented the wildflowers and late spring snow on Koma Kulshan (Mt. Baker) in the distance. This view has been visible to me my whole life and I like to imagine that he also took in the beauty of his islands and the distant mountains every night while searching for food. Takaya's legacy only makes me love my island home more and inspires me to do whatever I can to protect it and the wildlife that we share it with. I have started volunteering my time in wildlife rehabilitation and spreading information about wolf conservation as a result of his tragic story. To me, wolves are the epitome of strength and majesty and that is what I wanted to capture in my piece.
