“Dear Takaya, I never got to see you, but I always looked for you. I would try to find an excuse to stop at Discovery every time I was out on the water whale watching, in hopes of catching a glimpse of the notorious lone wolf. Even back then, I felt tied to you. You touched the hearts of so many people. I’m not sure I could ever do justice to your magnificence, but I did my best to capture your essence. I understand why you might have left, and the longing in your heart for some kind of connection. I may not have known you, but I do know what it’s like to be alone, face to face with one of your kind. To stare into the eyes of a highly intelligent, emotionally developed creature and feel the pure magic of a wolf. You were magic. You still are. You will live on in our hearts and continue to inspire a generation of people fighting for a brighter future for your kind. I promise I will not give up advocating to improve the lives of wolves. Thank you for giving us hope and connecting us to what’s important.”
