  • Artist: Penny Woodworth

Penny grew up on the West Coast of Canada and loved horses, but was unable to access them, so fulfilled her fantasies by drawing them. She never sought formal art education and eventually drifted away from art entirely as she found other satisfying and time-consuming occupations: working, raising a family, and training and showing her horse. One day when she was seventy, she again felt the need to create. She wandered into her deserted studio and picked up her pencils. Her paints and papers were long gone, so she decided if she was going to resupply herself she would try something different - pastel. She loves to use pastels, as they give her the scope of detail and excitement of colour. At first she painted only animal portraits, but eventually expanded to develop more complete paintings and landscapes. At present she works only in pastels, but may explore other mediums in future...life is too short to limit it.
