I started thinking about returning to printmaking a few years ago after reading an article on the new generation of fine-art printers and new pigment inks developed to last more than 200 years. I loved printmaking in the 1970s, but the realities of academic life led me to focus my creative efforts on scholarly writings and the research that back them.

One very pleasant result of the new inks is the compelling luminousity I see in the sunlight reflecting off the Atlantic in this image taken in Cádiz on the Winter Solstice. It captures a bit of what attracts me to the works of William Turner. One way or another, luminousity factors into every image I print.

It's named "Peter's Sunset" after a generous donor to The Los Angeles Ballet.
