MessagePrismatic Restraint presents a pair of diamond-studded handcuffs rendered as luxury object and instrument of control at once. The gemstones turn restraint into ornament, borrowing the visual codes of prestige to aestheticize what is fundamentally coercive. The form sits in a tension between “accessory” and “evidence,” asking how easily violence can be made desirable when it is packaged with shine.
From the cuffs, rainbow paint drips in viscous streams, introducing a language of identity, emotion, and lived experience that refuses to stay contained. The color reads as both celebration and leakage, as if something human is seeping through the surface of a system designed to immobilize. The contrast between hard, faceted diamonds and fluid pigment underscores the conflict between rigid structures and the messy reality of bodies that will not conform.
By fusing glamour with confinement, the work critiques how power can disguise itself as taste, and how oppression can be normalized through aesthetics. Prismatic Restraint ultimately asks what it means to call something “beautiful” when its purpose is limitation, and who benefits when control is made to sparkle.
