The Artists Gallery (TAG)
Los Angeles, California
TAG Gallery is a Contemporary Fine Art Gallery on Museum Row in the Miracle Mile Wilshire Blvd district of Los Angeles, California
MessageThe painting belongs to the series “Under the Bluebird Sky” that studies interrelations between mass media and human’s feeling of Happiness. The artist’s research is based on the Lippmann-Dewey debate that centers on Lippmann's belief that mass media manipulates public opinion through biased information, while Dewey argues that mass media has the potential to educate and empower the public to engage more deeply in social and political context.
The metaphor of Bluebird as a metamodernist image is seen as harbinger of Happiness and Hope in pantheons of ancient and contemporary cultures. People keep chasing the Bluebird and its vibes in of our daily life forgetting that it is always reachable as soon as one starts looking for it.
The artist uses collage of English-language glossy newspapers as backdrop. The titles and articles of super popular media encourage to follow the trends, stay fit and catch up with modern fashion. They are covered by transparent wing of a Bluebird inviting the viewers to contemplate on how much our inner Happiness depends on the trends set by other people and on how our identity is shaped by our own needs or by something that comes from outside.
