These two sister pieces were created using acrylic dyes on archival heavy weight paper prepared to receive oil paint. Oils were then applied over the dyes to create a dreamy appearance. Images that had been drawn onto the paper are left to ghost through the oils creating a many layered appearance. While they look slightly different in size, they are exactly the same with the same size border around them.
Blue Heron I and Blue Heron II are sister pieces of a diptych. When hung together, the two herons face inward toward each other in a beautiful, mirrored dance. The style is slightly different than my usual classic style, but the realistic birds remain consistent with my other work. I love the way these two pieces play with each other. They are pure magic!
