Helen's Curls

This sepia painting was inspired by a photo of my mother taken circa 1938. Pretty sure it was a college photo from Cornell University where she was majoring in Architecture. I was fascinated by the period Hairdo, so I felt compelled to paint it. Plus, I enjoyed depicting my beautiful mother when she was a younger woman. She died from cancer when she was only 56 years old. This is also a tribute to her life. She was an amazing, accomplished, wonderful woman and mother. This piece is the third painting in an ongoing series of sepia paintings inspired by old family photographs.
