Glacier Lilies Limited Edition of 13

A three plate linocut relief print, hand printed with Caligo Ink on topographical map of Kananaskis Lakes (circa 1980). Limited edition of 13. Each map piece is different, creating a unique set of images.

I used this map to hike in this area in the 80's, so it has some creases, which are largely smoothed out in the mounting process (i.e. it lies flat.) I created this series to memorialize this beautiful area, where Glacier Lilies poke up through the snow in the early spring, even in quite high altitudes. One of the lovely and fragile things in the world that is at risk due to climate change. I also wanted to give the map another life as a work of art.

The paper has already been printed once (to make the map) so is not a perfect surface for printmaking. But I find the small imperfections an appealing part of the map's history, and I hope you do too.

The printed image is approximately 5 3/4 x 3 3/4". Paper sizes vary, but are approximately 8 1/2 x 7" All are mounted and matted and ship in a clear bag. The outer dimensions of the mat at 10 x 8, so they will fit into standard commercial frames of that size that are widely available.
