I am inspired by joie de vivre and love of wild places. Making art is a journey towards enlightenment, and I invite you to join me on that journey.
MessagePlaces where the exposed rock of the Shield has been rounded smooth by the wind and the water always capture my attention. The shapes of the erratic rocks that sit alone are of interest. I love the way the water creates small ecologies like miniature rivers with islands. The rocks themselves are of many colours, and I choose to enhance specific parts of these patterns, rather than attempt a photographic depiction. Sgraffito -- the process of scraping through paint layers -- was used to depict shapes.
I use recycled books to wipe my brushes in the studio, and these pages are further recycled as collage, such as in this piece.
These ancient rocks, in such a wild place, are very calming somehow -- they remind us of the fleeting nature of our problems, and encourage us to stop and reflect and enjoy this moment in time.
