Mixed media textile piece, naturally dyed batik fragment on silk overlayed with hand applique and embroidery of a stem of Laurel or Bay Tree. 'Laurus Nobilis' came originally from ancient forests known as Laurisilva Forests, remnants remain in Madeira and The Canary Islands. In ancient Greece laurel or bay was a symbol of wisdom, peace and protection.
