I am inspired by joie de vivre and love of wild places. Making art is a journey towards enlightenment, and I invite you to join me on that journey.
MessageA scene of deep forest rendered in greens and blues, with lilac highlights, and a rusty red band across the lower piece.
A figure in the lower half is visible in outline, executing a yoga pose called Triangle, or Trikonasana.
This is not a specific forest, as I have taken hundreds of reference photos of such locations. I am drawn to the scale of the vertical lines of the trunks, with the foliage high overhead, and the trees going on seemingly to infinity as they get smaller and smaller. The branch forms are always chaotic seeming from close up, even though the tree forms are obvious from a distance.
Forests give us a similar inner calm as does yoga. Would we be damaging the climate as we are if we all spent more time in the forest, or in calm embrace of our inner life as yoga encourages?
The number visible on the painting, 421.26, is the NOAA number for the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (seasonally adjusted) in June of 2023 is an ongoing way of bearing witness to climate change.
Could be paired with the Warrior I painting as a diptych, or hung as a standalone piece.
