Artist: Rudolph Scheffler (German American, 1884-1973)
Rudolph Scheffler created the most memorable art in the Moyer building. He began his career painting portraits in his native Dresden, Germany. After immigrating to the United States in 1924, he established a studio in Brooklyn, New York, and worked to create murals, stained glass, and mosaics for churches and synagogues. For the next twenty years, he produced a remarkable variety of murals, mosaics, and works in stained glass for public buildings throughout the United States. Scheffler produced a major mosaic for the Cathedral of Saint Louis and a mosaic dome for the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, Connecticut.
