Artist: Daniel LeRoy MacMorris (American, 1893-1984)
Daniel Leroy MacMorris was born in Sedalia, Missouri in 1894. He studied at the Chicago Institute of Art under Alphonso Mucha and under George Sass in Kansas City, then later studied under Leon Gaspard for two summers. MacMorris would go on to serve in both World Wars, in the signal corps for WWI and teaching camouflage in WWII. Afterwards, he returned to Kansas City to become a muralist, teacher, and portrait painter. He spent most of his career there, working on painting portraits of prominent individuals such as Marcel Duchamp and Margaret Truman and her children. Some of his portraits and murals are featured in the Nelson Art Gallery, the Kansas City Museum, the Liberty Memorial Building and Public Library, and Carnegie Hall.
