Utah artist Kylie Millward's brightly painted Art Piano was unveiled at the grand opening of a new transit center in Kimball Junction in 2017. The lobby of the transit Center features the brightly decorate piano adorned with folky illustrations of Utah wildlife. Featured animals include skunk, elk, snake, beaver and mountain dalong with a few hidden surprises.
Millward is known for her lighthearted whimsical painting style which often features animals. She received and MFA from the University of Utah in 2020 where she is currently an adjunct instructor. She was named in Utah's 15 Bytes magazine in the 35 x 35 Artists of Utah in 2020. The piano is available for the public to play and was the fourth in Summit County's Art Piano's for all program which has now placed over twelve pianos throughout the county.
Kylie Millward holds an MFA from the University of Utah, and a BFA from the University of Kansas. Kylie works as a freelance illustrator, educator, and seasonally fights wildfire.
Art Pianos for All, founded by local photographer and artist Mark Mazierz, seeks to bring back the piano as a centerpiece of music, community, art, and fun by placing artist decorated pianos in public areas for all to play. An annual pop-up concert series utilizing the pianos began in 2019 and features professional Utah orchestra members playing the pianos on site.
The art piano is located inside the lobby of the main transit center building, just west of the Summit County Library.
