Reverse painting refers to a derivative of a centuries-old process of painting on the reverse or inside of glass while using modern materials. I feel the connection in a tangible way. In this painting, I have applied acrylic paint to the reverse side of a large plexiglass sheet but it is the front (non-painted ) side of the piece that I show. When done, the finished sheet is mounted onto a canvas so that it can be hung. The result is a high sheen absolutely smooth finish and the colours are enhanced because they are seen through a layer of plexiglass.
