My vision of the Flint Hills is always embedded in a larger vision of the prairie that stretches from the Texas Panhandle, where I grew up, across Kansas and on to Chicago. This painting is a meditation on the drought that has ravaged the southwestern part of that prairie for the past decade. The title is from Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.
