Stasis Hiatus is an interior painting of my studio, which is an outbuilding behind my house. Hiatus is what I used to call my studio because that’s where I would spend small moments being creative in-between the needs and wants of my young daughters. I was/am a stay-at-home-dad. Anyway, they’re older now, and need me less. So now I just refer to it as the Stoods. Stasis refers to my indecision about whether I would use my limited time to make art or music. I felt a place of such importance to me deserves to become the subject of a painting. I really enjoyed repainting my older paintings. The studio is constantly changing and this captures a moment in time. I also loved the challenge of painting the light reflections from the cymbals and chrome of the drum set. In 2019, this painting was awarded the Corinne Maillard Robinson Award at the BBAC's 38th annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition.
