Allowance is a painting of my daughters getting ice cream from the ice cream truck one summer afternoon. I captured this moment with a few snapshots, but I painted it to serve as a reminder to our girls that they really do love each other. They are given allowance to spend however they want. Well, our youngest spent all her money already and wasn’t going to be able to get ice cream. She started carrying on like it was the end of times. My wife and I weren’t giving in to her antics. After all, it was a teachable moment in financial literacy. In swoops her big sister to save the day by buying ice cream for both of them with her allowance which she had been saving.
On the surface, this painting is nostalgic, but upon closer inspection the expressions and body language of the girls reveal a deeper story of their personalities and relationship.
Allowance was featured on page 45 of Salann Magazine’s 1st edition.
