This work is created with the Kansetsu-ho (Indirect) Gyotaku printing technique, using oil based inks on 8 mm Habotai Silk and displayed as a banner. This particular piece is of a brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) from the Adirondack mountains in New York.
Brook Trout are not true trout but are part of the Salvelinus , or Char genus, which includes Arctic Char, Lake Trout and Dolly Varden and Bull trout. they are native to northeastern North America and are the state fish of nine eastern US states.
