The internationally renowned visual artist, Pedro Friedeberg, was born in Florence in 1936. Since his early childhood he has lived in Mexico, where he became a student of Mathías Goeritz's at the School of Architecture at the UNAM. Friedeberg paints, draws and makes prints, objects and sculptural furniture. Always elegant, his work is as joyful as it is obsessive, and as intellectual as it is ironic. A universal reader, he comes up with unusual combinations and titles. Friedeberg’s work doesn’t belong to one specific art movement. As an independent artist, he interacts freely with Architecture, Surrealism, Assemblage, Kinetic Art, Geometry, Concrete Poetry, and Applied Art. Although he created a signature piece, "La Manita / the Hand-foot Chair", the artist deals with a wide range of themes, and he neither tolerates boredom nor does he want his audience to experience it either. His art is highly sophisticated and comprehensible at the same time, everyone can read it, and his sense of humor is imparted to almost all viewers.
