ABOUT THIS PRINT
Following discharge from active duty in U.S. Army in May 1965, the artist ended up at Florida State University (FSU) as a part-time graduate student, working part-time in the FSU Department of Publications. In June 1965, he was in a creative printmaking class taught by artist Arthur Deshaies, intaglio using plexiglass as a matrix. "Mary D Reading a Book" was the result of that printmaking class. Mary Darr Byrd was a fellow art student at FSU.
Nine proofs only; each proof, the matrix was modified, and each proof is visually distinct different. Later proofs, part of the matrix carved away, thus printing an embossed area.
