In center of the watercolor, a man is gathering oysters in the Indian River Lagoon, along the north shoreline at the west end of the Melbourne Causeway in Melbourne, Florida. Cabbage Palms, aka Sabal Palms. Barrier island town of Indialantic is in the distance on the east side of the lagoon.
In earlier days, through the 1960s perhaps, there were still huge oyster beds in the shallow waters near the mouth of Crane Creek and at the west end of the Melbourne Causeway and at other regions in the Indian River Lagoon.
