As a 13-year old 7th grade student in Melbourne, Florida, the young artist was invited to attend an adult drawing group, and this pastel painting was done there from a still life set up by the group. / The leader of that adult group was Stanley De Graff, an artist employed in a graphics job at the Melbourne Times daily newspaper. Mr. De Graff framed this pastel for a local exhibition. Thereafter it remained on the living room wall of the artist's mother, Hilda Spence Guerin.
