Wet September evening on the Denali Highway. Campfire smoke from a moose-hunting camp rises then lays in a horizontal line in the wet, chilly air. There are scattered small lakes and patches of Fall colors. The mighty Susitna River runs down the distant valley on the right. We are pulled off the road. There's no traffic. The mosquitoes are not so bad. It is quiet and it'll be dark soon.
