“This is looking up a big cottonwood tree illuminated by moonlight. The frame is from a time-lapse photograph taken with a DSLR Canon 5D Mark II. The shutter was open for 20 to 30 seconds allowing the camera sensor to gather more light than the eye can see, which makes the stars appear brighter than they are to the naked eye.”

Randy Halverson has been shooting time-lapse photography since 2010. In addition to single photographs, Randy also produces time-lapse videos created from thousands of his still shots. He also mounts the camera on a motion-controlled rig that moves the camera slightly, creating additional motion in his videos. His work has been featured internationally, and he collaborated with composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica and The Walking Dead) who produced an original score for Randy’s video titled “Temporal Distortion”.
