“The design is engraved into and drawn on copper sheets salvaged from the dome of the South Dakota State Capitol Building after a storm. Viewers looking for symbolic or metaphorical content may note the echoes of the Capitol dome, complete with laws and
lawmakers. Their form is generated using variations on the geometric theme of the diagonal of the half-square and its extensions (aka the ‘perfect harmonies’ of the Golden Section).”

Bill Fleming is a lifelong South Dakota artist and designer with family roots going back to the Black Hills gold rush. He studied art and art history under John Day at Yankton College and Mt. Marty in Yankton, SD, graduating with a degree in fine art. Bill began his professional career in the graphic arts in Washington, D.C., and his gallery experience to date has been limited to a piece (one of his early books) accepted into the inaugural S.D. Governor’s Biennial Art Exhibition. Bill’s work is usually intricate and geometry-based.
