“This piece is an abstraction of no particular place. H. C. refers to Harding County, what I call the last best corner. True art doesn’t replicate reality; rather — by a dramatized way of seeing — it affords us access to a reality of its own, one presents a new way of seeing our own realities. Art explores possible understandings of humanity and our world. It is the archetypal savannah-landscape of the high plains and our current relationships to it that interest me. Even in works quite tied to one time and/or place, the particular is always but a launch point.”
