This block of oil stained wood block was removed from the shed built by Harland & Wolff specifically to test Titanic's reciprocating engines. During the testing phase the engines had to be operated at full speed. To keep the resulting vibrations from tearing down the testing facility, Harland & Wolff lined the floor with individual wooden blocks that could vibrate independently, thus lessening the strain placed on the structure.
