Little has been written about fabrics that were used in the merchandising of tobacco, which included cigar ribbons, cigarette silks, and cigar flannels. Quilts made from these fabrics reflect the importance of home decoration during the Victorian times, they also suggested the impact of tobacco usage on late-Victorian and early twentieth-century society. Cigar quilts are made in similar fashion to crazy quilts. Strips of cloth were applied to a background fabric. Surface embellishment was deemed necessary, in this case it was traditionally feather stitching.
