Artist: Mark Adams (American, 1925-2006)
Born in New York, schooling at NYC (Syracuse Fine Arts & Columbia), and also studied in under Hans Hoffman, a German-American abstract expressionist. French Tapestry artist Jean Lurçat also heavily influenced hisi approach. Adams focused on still lifes across the may medias he mastered; tapestry, water coloring and stained glass. His tapestries are on display at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) [Pond in Golden Gate Park,” “Garden in San Andreas Valley,” and “Garden Outside Gate” by Mark Adams, 1983, on display, pre-security, in Terminal 2]. His art can be found in public and private spaces throughout the Bay Area - Macarthur BART Station, SFPL, Marina Branch. Adams would draw the "cartoon" of the tapestry and work with weavers in France from Aubusson, in line wth the Aubsson weaving techniques that he studied while in France.
