Artist: Ken WHISSON (1927-2022)
Born 1927, Lilydale, Victoria. Lived and worked Perugia, Italy and Sydney, New South Wales. Died 2022
In a career spanning over 60 years, Ken Whisson has been making thoughtful and uncompromising artworks which hold a unique place in Australian art. He completed his studies under the expressionist painter and Russian émigré Danila Vassilieff at the Koorong School in Warrandyte in the 1940s, developing a uniquely personal, idiosyncratic style thereafter that fused abstraction and figuration. Whisson’s paintings combine heightened colour and line-work, and are typically painted in oil onto composition board or linen. In their fusion of abstract and representational imagery, they have a hallucinatory quality that draws upon a personal and wider symbolism. https://www.mca.com.au/collection/artists/ken-whisson/ 14/02/2024
