My inspiration for a painting or theme is usually multi-layered and evolving. The initial inspiration, which sparked this series was a collector telling me that she loves the combination of aubergine and ochre - she and her husband were married 35 years ago in Tuscany, and these colors were the theme of the wedding, symbolizing the warm afternoon light on ancient buildings and Italian red wine. The story somehow stuck with me, and that initial inspiration was enriched with my own memories of Tuscany, softened by time, and - on another level - also borne of a need for soothing colors in a time of uncertainty and change.
