Modern Ophelia is a work on the impact of the fast fashion industry. I painted it using the same composition and colour of the work "Ophelia" by Millais, exchanging the pale Scandinavian girl with a South East Asian girl in a bright Saree. And the landscape by the same colour scheme made from my own clothing. The original painting is a beautiful romantic painting, that depicts the suicide or death of a girl. I am playing on the tragedy of that painting that the beauty and shiny world of the fashion industry has a huge and ugly shadow side of global impact. I wanted to show the dignity of the woman that is a symbol of all these people that make our fast fashion clothes that we discard all too quickly. It is a rich painting in colour. Unframed.
