Anna Wiechec was born in Krakow,Poland and attended Krakow High School for the Visual Arts. As a young child, she was interested in sculpture. It was everywhere in Krakow-in the churches, the parks and public places. By 1989 she moved to Canada and in 1991 she had enrolled in the School of Art at the University of Manitoba, where she received her BFA in sculpture in 1996.
During her studies, anna's talent was recognized with the awarding of the Cecil Richards Prize for Figurative Sculpture in 1993, 1994, and 1995.
In her latest exhibition the artist's preferred subject matter has been the female dancer and the preferred medium bronze. She sees these women as strong and disciplined but always graceful. Every detail of flesh, muscle, straining tendons and facial expressions exemplifies a contemporary approach to the realistic female nude.
Anna has received major commissions in bronze which has encourage future endeavors. The artist uses what is called, the lost wax process which utilizes a number of positive and negative molds from the artist's original ceramic figure, to create the final product in bronze. in addition, a final patina and wax coating is added to complete the sculpture.
