As a kid, my favorite land at Disneyland was always Tomorrowland. What could beat Space Mountain in the heart of a nerdy middle school tween? For me, it was a gateway to a magical world of science fiction wonder. Tomorrowland had all the best rides and carried with it that funky late-sixties vision of the future.
As I grew older, the space-age future I once marveled at transformed into something else—a retro vision of what once was, dated yet still endlessly fun. When I finally had the chance to take my own kids, I loved being able to share not only the rides, but also the charm of that vintage, imagined future.
This was the view that greeted visitors as they first walked into Tomorrowland—a glimpse into Disney’s vision of the “future,” with all its glory spread out before us, waiting to be discovered. The retro color palette carries with it a deep sense of nostalgia, like a vivid memory intensified and blurred by time, yet no less full of wonder.
