This piece shows the threat that Line 5 poses to the Fish Creek Watershed, including Chequamegon Bay. In 2018, a storm event flooded Fish Creek and the force of the water destabilized the Hwy 2 bridge and cut a new channel in the river overnight, just a short distance upstream from one of the places where the pipeline crosses beneath the river. With severe weather events increasing because of climate change, the pipeline poses a huge threat to all downstream waters, lands, and communities.
