I took the reference photo for this painting during a walk through a community garden in Nutana on 12th Street in Saskatoon. I’m drawn to these small pockets within the city—places where unexpected varieties of plants appear. The artichoke stood out for the way its leaves gathered and unfolded as it came into bloom.
