Lionel Lofton is a contemporary abstract artist from Houston, Texas, known for his vibrant use of color, layered textures, and expressive visual language. Inspired early by the influential murals at Texas Southern University many shaped by the legacy of Dr. John Biggers, Lofton discovered the power of art to transform space and communicate cultural history. His artistic path deepened during his studies at Prairie View A&M; University, where mentorship from Dr. Clarence Talley, Sr. affirmed his dedication to creative exploration. Lofton later earned his M.A. from the University of Houston, further refining his artistic voice. Working across acrylic, watercolor, collage, and printmaking, Lofton creates dynamic compositions that reflect the energy, movement, and evolution of life. His work is influenced by Romare Bearden, Al Loving, Sam Gilliam, and Richard Diebenkorn, yet remains distinctly his own bold, rhythmic, and infused with joy. Exhibited nationally, his art appears in prominent museums and collections, including the Harmon and Harriet Kelley Collection, the Paul R. Jones Collection, and the African American Museum of Dallas. Lofton continues to be created in Houston, committed to inspiring future generations and celebrating the transformative power of the artistic process
