Born in. 1963, Antonio Carreno, is an abstract painter, whose work has been receiving accolades nationally and his birthplace, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, were he gained his academic background at the National School of fine Arts. His paintings burst with abstract vitality. Abstraction offered Antonio the freedom he wanted to express, finding that his subconscious would often take a unpredictable course and that his conscious thoughts engage formal artistic qualities of structure, color, and line.
Carreno says he is influenced by masters such as Kandisky, Miro, and Norman Lewis and calls his style " magical realism'". He uses shapes, forms, line and color to create dynamic paintings that are better to view than to describe. Antonio has a interest and fascination with the Universe, and humanity's place within it. Scientist acknowledge that the universe is expanding, yet the are unaware of how it is occurring. The driving forces of the universe remain a mystery in many respects, and it is a mystery Antonio seeks to explore.
Carreno wants the viewer to experience the world of Spirituality ad Lyicism he explores what post-modernists describe as the human truth-concrete experiences dictating one's fallible and relative truth rather than an overwhelming universal truth.
